How big is a Playaway and how much content can it hold?
Playaway is about half the size of a deck of cards and holds content that ranges from six to 40 hours of play time.

How do I change the battery?
Locate the battery clip at the wide base of the player. Then, use your thumb, coin or a screwdriver to push the clip which will allow you to unsnap and remove the cover. After that, remove the old battery and replace with a fully charged battery. Lastly, snap the cover back into place. View the battery tutorial. 

How do I use the lanyard?
Locate the lanyard loophole at the narrow top of the player. Then, with the book cover facing you, use your thumb, coin or a screwdriver to unclip and push the loophole out. Next, use your forefinger and thumb to unsnap the rope portion from the lanyard. This will allow you to thread the lanyard string through the hold and over the clip to keep it in place. Lastly, reattach the rope to the lanyard string. Wear it around your neck or use it as a shoulder strap.

How does Playaway compare to audio on cassette or CD?
Playaway is more convenient and easier to enjoy than juggling multiple CDs, cassettes or a separate player. Playaway allows the listener to control the speed of the narrator's voice and automatically bookmarks the last place they left off after powering down.

Can I use another set of headphones with my Playaway?
Absolutely. In addition to the earphones provided, Playaway was designed with a universal headphone jack to work with almost any type of headphones, speakers or car adapters.

Can I use Playaway in my car?
Yes. Playaway was specifically designed to use most commonly available cassette adapters and FM transmitters.  We also provide portable speakers for your Playaway that allow for on the go audio.

How does Playaway compare to digital downloads and other forms of on-the-go downloading like cell phones?
Playaway comes pre-loaded with great digital content, so it does not require information transfer fees, subscriptions, memberships, or even an Internet connection. Just plug-in your headphones and listen wherever you go.

What does the audio sound like on a Playaway?
Playaway audio is of equal or greater quality to digital downloads available today, due to proprietary audio processing, production and leading edge codecs.

What does Playaway cost?
Just like a hardcover book, current audio book, or latest music release Playaway prices vary based on the author, title, or artist. Currently pricing for Playaway is comparable to an unabridged CD - with titles beginning at $29.99 and up.

Is my Playaway covered under any kind of warranty?

How long does one AAA battery last?
Every Playaway comes pre-loaded with a standard Duracell AAA battery that will provide up to 12 hours of playtime. Depending on total playtime, some titles come with an extra battery. 

Why won't my Playaway turn on?
First, pull the small white battery tab with the arrow on it. This will activate the pre-loaded battery.

How do I know how much battery life is left in my unit?
The Playaway LCD has a small battery icon that is displayed on screen. There are four levels of battery life reflected in the icon. When one bar is left in the battery icon, you have 20% power left.

What do I do if my Playaway locks up?
Like any good storyteller, sometimes the Playaway just needs a moment to catch its breath. First, turn it on and off. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove and reinsert the battery.

How do I remove bookmarks from my Version 1.0 Playaway?
In order to remove previous bookmarks you must press the bookmark button at the time you are viewing the bookmark on the LCD screen.  The fastest way to do this is by using the “Skip Forward” button.  You will be able to view each chapter and bookmark for that title.

Why can't I add, delete or transfer content on or from a Playaway?
In order to protect the copyrighted works of authors and publishers as traditional books do, you are unable to make copies of Playaway. But you can share them with friends just like you would lend your new bestseller.

Are all of the titles listed on the website available to libraries? 
All titles listed on the retail consumer website are not necessarily available to libraries—but the majority of titles are. Due to publisher restrictions, there are a few titles that may not be available to libraries on Playaway. For a complete list of titles available to libraries, please refer to the official Title List found within the Library section of our site. 

May my library purchase extra packaging items?
Absolutely! While we do include one complete package solution for every item ordered, libraries may purchase additional packaging items, including replacement battery doors. Pricing may be found on the Library Order Form.

How should my library present Playaway titles to our patrons?
Every library is different and therefore may present Playaway titles differently to patrons.
Many libraries use existing waist-high shelving or gondola systems. Other libraries prefer rolling shelving carts to present Playaway in different areas of the library.  We also provide a simple and effective way to present Playaway with our Corrugate Library Display Fixture. Our display is available for purchase ($74.99), however we also provide this display FREE for every order placed for 40+ units. The fixture fits up to 36 secure cases or 40 non-secure cases with dimensions of 12”W x 12”L x 60”H.
